Huge Record-Breaking ‘Rampuri Chaku’ Installed in Its Iconic Birthplace in UP

Lucknow: Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, the birthplace of iconic ‘Rampuri Chaku’ will be in the record books for a huge version of the famous knife immortalized by the Bollywood blockbusters in the seventies.

A 20-foot-long Rampuri knife weighing 800 Kg has been installed in Rampur, the birthplace of this famous sharp weapon. The replica of the knife has been made of premium-grade brass and steel to ensure it does not catch rust easily. Authorities are sending it to the Guinness World Records.

Some decades back production of ‘Rampuri Chaku’ was the crux of the Rampur district’s economy. Rampuri knife manufacturing units were at every nook and corner of the district. But with time ‘Rampuri Chaku’ lost its sheen in the market and the artisans involved in its production shifted to other professions.

To remember of the lost glory of ‘Rampuri Chaku’, the Rampur district administration has established this huge version of the famous knife  at a cost of Rs 52.52 lakh.

Rampur MLA Akash Saxena said that the Rampuri knife was once known as a form of fear, but the government has turned it into a piece of art. He added that the UP government was considering granting exemption to the knife industry and keeping it out of the purview of GST.
