India’s 1st Rehab Colony for Victims of Climate Change to Come Up in Odisha’s Satbhaya

Bhubaneswar: India’s first resettlement colony for people affected by climate change will be established by the Odisha government for the inhabitants of Satbhaya in Kendrapada district. Families of Satbhaya were displaced due to climate change triggered coastal erosion.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik sanctioned Rs 22.5 crore for the colony’s first development phase at Bagapatia. it will be a part of the state government’s Adarsha Colony initiative, informed the CMO on Sunday.

Construction of houses, drinking water, electricity connections, road, and other facilities for the displaced people will be taken up with this allocated fund. The state government is also planning to provide agricultural land to the villagers of Satabhaya who lost their livelihood due to the coastal erosion.

Added to it, CM Naveen Patnaik has also directed the state tourism department to improve infrastructure and beautify the famous Panchubarahi Shrine in the Satabhaya area so that it becomes a major tourist destination.
