iPhones to be built in 300-acre Factory Near Bengaluru; Will Provide 1 Lakh Employment

Bengaluru: iPhones of Apple will be manufactured in a new 300-acre factory in Karnataka. Informing about it on Friday, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said, this unit will generate employment for one lakh people.

Foxconn, the leading manufacturer of iPhones from Taiwan, will establish this unit on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The 300-acre unit will be one of the largest manufacturing units for Apple phones.

The Taiwanese company is planning to invest $700 million in this new project, reported Bloomberg.

This is Foxconn’s second major investment in India. The company is already making the latest generation of iPhones at a site in Tamil Nadu.

Foxconn is said to be the world’s largest electronics manufacturer. As of last year, it ranks 20th in the Fortune Global 500.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar shared the news on Twitter and praised the “double engine sarkar” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. In a separate statement, CM Bommai said that the investment will create a “whole lot of opportunities for Karnataka”.

A 17-member delegation of Foxconn led by chairman Young Liu visited the campus close to the Bengaluru airport on Friday. The delegation would also meet PM Modi in New Delhi in the evening.

Global companies are shifting from China with the escalation of Washington-Beijing tensions. Foxconn’s decision to set up an iPhone manufacturing unit in Karnataka is related to it.

Foxconn has 173 campuses and offices in 24 countries including China, Japan, Vietnam, the Czech Republic and the US.
