JDS Legislator Demands Room for Namaz in Karnataka Assembly

Bengaluru: A Janata Dal (Secular) Member of Legislative Council (MLC) BM Farooq has requested the upper house Chairman for a namaz room for Muslims in the Karnataka Vidhana Soudha.

The chairman has not responded to his letter with this request.

In the past, Jharkhand High Court pulled up the state government when a room was allotted in the state Assembly for namaz.

But the Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil, while speaking on the floor of the assembly said he would organise a meeting with the chairman of the Legislative Council and others to discuss the demand of Farooq.

“I asked for a room for namaz because debates in the house mostly get delayed and we can’t go out and pray,” said Farooq.
