Karnataka Election: Over 17,000 Voters are Older Than the State

Bengaluru: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar has revealed that Karnataka has over 16,000 voters above the age of 100 who are older than the state.

“Karnataka has 12.15 lakh voters who are 80-plus, including 16,976 centenarian voters. Also, there are 5.55 lakh persons with disabilities registered with the Election Commission,” Mr Kumar said.

The Karnataka Assembly polls will be held on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13, said the Election Commission of India on Wednesday.

The election will be held for all 224 assembly constituencies of Karnataka. Karnataka has 5,21,73,579 registered voters in 224 Assembly segments. A total of 58,282 polling booths are to be set up across the state for the assembly polls, said Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

The Congress party announced its first list of 124 candidates on March 25. Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will contest from Varuna and Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar will contest from the Kanakapura constituency.

Siddaramaiah said this would be his last election and after this, he will stay away from electoral politics.

Earlier on March 20, the Aam Aadmi Party on March 20 also released its first list comprising 80 candidates. The party has said it will field candidates in all the 224 Assembly constituencies in the state.

The tenure of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on May 24, 2023.
