Law Student Falls Prey to Online Sextortion, Know the Modus Operandi

Lucknow: A law student from Bihar studying in a college in Lucknow became prey to an online sextortion racket and paid over Rs 77,000 to the gang. He was trapped through a modus operand which is being repeated by online sextortionists.

Following a complaint lodged by the student in the BBD police station area of Lucknow, a case was registered with the police on Wednesday.

While in his hostel room, the law student received a video call from an unknown number and a naked girl on the other end persuaded him to undress himself. The victim obeyed the girl and got disrobed.

A few minutes later he received a threatening call from the girl. The girl asked him to pay money, threatening to make the naked video of the victim viral. The victim transferred a total of Rs 77,599 to two bank accounts, she provided.

Later the miscreants demanded Rs 28,000 more to delete his videos. He also received a threatening call from a man who claimed to be the police commissioner of Delhi.

Investigation continues to nab the gang behind the sextortion racket.
