Manika Batra Becomes First Indian Woman to Win Medal in Asian Cup Table Tennis Tournament

New Delhi: Indian table tennis player Manika Batra clinched the bronze medal at the ongoing ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup tournament at Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday. She became the first Indian female paddler to win a medal at the event.

She defeated World number six and three-time Asian champion Hina Hayata by 4-2 to clinch the bronze medal.

Manika Batra became the second Indian to win a medal in the Asian Cup. Former men’s singles player Chetan Baboor is the only Indian table tennis player to win a medal at the Asian Cup. He bagged silver in 1997 and bronze in 2000.
