Mob Burns Godown of Manipur Min, Attempt to Torch His House Thwarted by Security Forces

Imphal: A mob torched a private godown of Manipur minister L Susindro at Chingarel in Imphal East district on Friday night. It was completely destroyed.

There was also an attempt to burn down another property of the consumer and food affairs minister and his residence at Khurai in the Imphal East district on the same night. But timely action of the security forces thwarted the attempt of arson.

Several rounds of teargas shells were lobbed by the security forces till midnight to prevent the mob from gheraoing the minister’s Khurai residence. No casualty or injury was reported in the incident.

On June 15 night, a group of miscreants torched the residence of Union Minister Rajkumar Ranjan Singh in Imphal’s Kongba.

On June 14 night, the residence of Nemcha Kipgen, the lone female minister in the Manipur cabinet was torched by a group of unidentified miscreants in the Lamphel area of Imphal West district.

On June 16 night, two civilians were injured when security forces tried to prevent mobs from trying to torch BJP leaders’ houses in ethnic violence hit Manipur.
