Imphal: One person was beheaded and three others were shot dead in Manipur on Sunday. Violence continues in Manipur in spite of the presence of around 36,000 central troops in the ethnic violence-hit state.
According to sources, three Meitei village volunteers were killed in Khuijuman Tabi in the Meitei-majority Bishnupur district in “firing from the hillside”.
It led to a retaliatory attack on two Kuki villages, Langza and Chinglangmei in Churachandpur between 3.30 am and 4 am. Thirty houses were burnt down and a man was beheaded during this retaliatory attack.
The assailants displayed the severed head of the victim on a fence.
Till now the ethnic violence in Manipur has claimed at least 138 lives and displaced 60,000 people.
Sunday’s killings follow the death of three persons, including a policeman, on Thursday.
