PM Modi to Review India’s COVID Situation Today

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday will review the COVID situation and the country’s preparations to face it. India has started to take precautions following the massive upsurge of COVID infection in China. Four cases of the Omicron sub-variant which is now infecting the Chinese populace, have been located in India.

Patients infected by the BF.7 coronavirus variant were reported in Gujarat and Odisha. According to reports, there are 10 Covid variants in the country at present, the latest being BF.7.

BF.7 is a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant BA.5 and is highly contagious with a shorter incubation period. It has a high infection rate even among vaccinated people.

On Wednesday Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya advised using masks and COVID-appropriate behavior. But till now the government has not come up with any directive regarding it.

Some airports have started random checks of international passengers for COVID-19. Centre has directed all states to step up genome sequencing and to send samples of all COVID-positive cases to the labs of INSACOG, a forum under the Health Ministry to study and monitor various COVID strains.

But only 129 new coronavirus infections were reported in the country during the past 24 hours. and the number of active cases currently stands at 3,408. One death was recorded.

India is alert after an increase in BF.7 cases in China, US, UK and European nations such as Belgium, Germany, France and Denmark.
