Prez, PM Congratulate Manika Batra For For Winning Bronze At Asian Cup

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Table Tennis player, Manika Batra for winning Bronze Medal at Asian Cup.

The President of India tweeted, “Congratulations to Manika Batra for scripting sports history by becoming the first Indian woman table tennis player to win a medal in the Asian Cup. She defeated top-ranking players in the tournament. This win will inspire our youth, especially girls, to emulate her excellence.”

The Prime Minister tweeted, “I congratulate Manika Batra for scripting history for Indian Table Tennis at the Asian Cup by winning a Bronze. Her success will inspire many athletes across India and will make Table Tennis even more popular. @manikabatra_TT.”

Indian table tennis player Manika Batra clinched the bronze medal at the ongoing ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup tournament at Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday. She became the first Indian female paddler to win a medal at the event.

She defeated World number six and three-time Asian champion Hina Hayata by 4-2 to clinch the bronze medal.

Manika Batra became the second Indian to win a medal in the Asian Cup. Former men’s singles player Chetan Baboor is the only Indian table tennis player to win a medal at the Asian Cup. He bagged silver in 1997 and bronze in 2000.
