Ram Navami Violence: Amit Shah’s Sasaram visit cancelled; Fresh Reports of Clashes in parts of Country

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Bihar’s Sasaram on April 2 was cancelled following violent clashes in the area related to Ram Navami celebrations. Even two days after Ram Navami fresh reports of clashes continue to appear from different parts of the country. So far, two people have lost their lives in the clashes, one in Maharashtra and the other in West Bengal.

Ram Navami violence has tensed up the atmosphere in several states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, and Karnataka. In Bengal’s Howrah, fresh incidents of stone pelting were reported on Friday. Authorities imposed prohibitory orders to maintain law and order in Howrah.

Restrictions under Section 144 were imposed in Bihar’s Sasaram and Nalanda following violent group clashes. Meanwhile, several arrests have been made to curb the clashes.  Shah’s visit to Bihar’s Sasaram, which was scheduled for tomorrow (April 2), has been cancelled owing to the Ram Navami clashes in the area. The administration has imposed Section 144.

On Friday, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee blamed the Howrah violence on the Bharatiya Janata Party and said, “The BJP has been planning these events for a month and they are now using these clashes to avoid the Opposition’s questions about the Adani row.” Police have filed a case against suspended BJP MLA T Raja Singh for his controversial remarks during a Ram Navami rally in Hyderabad.
