New Delhi: In a rare phenomenon, monsoon rains knocked at the doors of Mumbai and Delhi on the same day this year on June 25. Such a rare coincidence last occurred on June 21, 1961, when the monsoon advanced over Delhi and Mumbai at the same time, said IMD officials.

Mumbai, the financial capital of India and the national capital Delhi are at a distance of over 1,430 kilometers from each other.

With the arrival of the monsoon, both Mumbai and Delhi experienced heavy rainfall on Sunday.

Usually, the monsoon reaches Delhi on June 27. This year its arrival was two days earlier than scheduled. On the contrary, the usual arrival date of the monsoon in Mumbai is June 11. This year monsoon’s arrival in Mumbai was delayed by two weeks, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
