Trump Must Pay $5 Million for Sexually Abusing Writer: New York Jury

Donald Trump was on Tuesday found liable for sexually abusing writer E Jean Carroll in the 1990s. The jury ordered Trump to pay up $5 million in compensation to her. This judgment will prove to be a major stumbling block in the path of the former president trying to get reelected to the White House.

The jury also held Trump guilty of defaming Carroll by branding her a liar.

Trump’s lawyer, Tacopina, told reporters that Trump will re-appeal. Trump will not have to pay so long as the case is on appeal.

Carroll, 79, testified during the civil trial that Trump, 76, raped her at a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in Manhattan in either 1995 or 1996. He also harmed her reputation.

Following the judgment, Carroll, in a statement said, “Today, the world finally knows the truth. This victory is not just for me but for every woman who has suffered because she was not believed.”

Trump faces no criminal consequences and there was never a threat of prison as it was a civil case.

Carroll was one of more than a dozen women who have accused Trump of sexual assault or harassment. The former US President is fighting a New York criminal case related to hush money payments made to a porn actor.
