Trying for Opposition Unity, Nitish Kumar to Meet Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will meet Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Monday. A day back Nitish Kumar met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. The JD (U) supremo and Bihar CM is attempting to forge Opposition unity to challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Meeting Kejriwal at his residence, Nitish Kumar tried to build a working relationship between the Delhi CM and the Congress to strengthen the Opposition unity. AAP and Congress are arch-rivals in Delhi and Punjab. Congress did not invite Kejriwal for the swearing-in ceremony of Siddhramaiah in Karnataka, which was a show of strength of the opposition parties where several leaders from the non-BJP camp were present, except Kejriwal and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

Nitish, during the meeting with Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, is also likely to discuss the dates for the opposition meeting in Patna.

“I am working towards building the opposition unity. Arvind Kejriwal has been doing a good job, but the Centre is not allowing him to work freely. It is important that the maximum number of opposition parties come together to defeat BJP,” Nitish Kumar said while speaking to the media after his meeting with Kejriwal in Delhi on Sunday.
