Top Maoist Leader Samaya Madkam Surrenders in Odisha’s Kandhamal

Phulbani: A high-ranking member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) faction surrendered before police in Kandhamal district on Tuesday.

The Maoist, identified as Samaya Madkam, also known by aliases Naresh, Amit, Rupesh, and Punit, was a committee member of the Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) division’s eighth company.

Madkam, who hails from Mangalguda village in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, reportedly joined the Maoists at a young age, only ten years old. During his time with the Maoist faction, he was allegedly involved in violent activities and faces 17 criminal cases registered against him across police stations in Kandhamal, Boudh, and Nuapada districts of Odisha.

According to reports, Madkam became disillusioned with the Maoist leadership due to their treatment of subordinate cadres. He reportedly faced mental and physical harassment at the hands of senior members, prompting him to abandon the violent path and seek reintegration into society.

Southern Range Inspector General of Police Jai Narayan Pankaj confirmed Madkam’s surrender in a press conference, stating that the former ultra leader wanted to renounce illegal activities and rejoin the mainstream.
