TV Series That Inspired Delhi’s Gruesome Butchery

In a spine-chilling murder, Aftab Amin Poonawala (28) of Delhi killed his live-in partner and disposed of her body in a too gruesome manner. He is reported to have confessed before police that he was inspired by the famous American crime series ‘Dexter’.

Aftab strangled his live-in partner, Shraddha Walkar to death. As he was a trained chef, he chopped off her body into small pieces. For 18 days, at the dead of night, he scattered the body pieces of Shraddha in Delhi’s Mehrauli forest area.

Aftab Amin resorted to several cunning measures to hide his crime. He is suspected to have used chemicals and electronic gadgets to remove blood stains as well as other marks related to his crime.

It is suspected that Aftab Poonawala learned all these tricks from the ‘Dexter’ crime series, which he was watching regularly.

‘Dexter’ is a popular TV series based on a book series written by Jeff Lindsey. Its main character Dexter Morgan is an anti-hero. He is a forensic expert, who works for Miami Police Department.

In his spare time, this forensic expert anti-hero turns into a vigilante serial killer. He kills murderers, who manage to evade the justice system. As a forensic expert, Dexter uses his professional skills to destroy all evidence related to the murders he commits.

Aftab Poonawala also repeated some of the techniques he learned from this series to hide the heinous crime he had committed by killing his live-in partner.

This incident again proves how a violent TV series can be the inspiration for real-life crimes.
