Uniform Civil Code Bill may be Tabled in Monsoon Session of Parliament

New Delhi: The BJP-led Central government may table a bill to implement the uniform civil code in the monsoon session of Parliament, reported India Today.

The monsoon session of the parliament is to start in the third week of July. The Uniform Civil Code Bill will be first sent to the parliamentary standing committee which will take opinion of various stakeholders.

According to the schedule of the standing committee on law and personnel, it will hear the views of representatives of the law panel and legal affairs and legislative departments of the law ministry “on public notice issued by the Law Commission of India on June 14, 2023, inviting views from the various stakeholders on the Uniform Civil Code, under the subject ‘Review of Personal Laws'”.

On Tuesday, PM Modi advocated for uniform laws for people across communities. He alleged that Muslims are being instigated over the sensitive issue.

Several opposition leaders have alleged that PM Modi is raising the Uniform Civil Code issue for political gains eyeing the 2024 polls.

The Uniform Civil Code will replace personal laws based on religions, customs, and traditions with one common law for everyone.
