Work From Home Increases Back & Neck Problems

Covid-19 pandemic increased the scope of work-from-home employment. Most of us loved the idea of not going to the office to work. Working from home saved many from getting infected by the coronavirus. But working from home also has its health hazards.

As per a report in The Guardian, back and neck problems like frozen shoulder and neck crick are rising dangers of working from home. People spend hours at their homes doing work hunched over their laptops. This has increased back and neck problems in Britain. As per The Guardian remote working may be partly to blame for Britain’s chronic labour shortage.

Thousands of people in Britain are reporting long-term sickness due to lockdown-related injuries. England’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) has discovered that the number of people being unfit for work because of neck and back injuries is on the rise in the country.

According to ONS in the three years from 2019, the total number of persons leaving jobs because of neck and back problems rose by 62,000.

Medical experts suspect while working from home, most people do not use proper chairs that can support the back and neck properly. Working for hours in bed or on the sofa in homes leads to body pain. If not treated in time, it turns into serious permanent pain.
