2 More Lawyers Arrested For Vandalising Sambalpur District Judge’s Chamber

Sambalpur: Two more lawyers were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the suspected damage to a district judge’s chamber yesterday during a protest in Sambalpur. This takes the total number of arrests up to 14.

Police and protesters participating in Satyagraha against the alleged anti-lawyer stance of the Bar Council of India (BCI) and State Bar Council got into a brawl on Monday. When lawyers attempted to enter the courtroom by crashing through the police blockade, a fight broke out between the police and both parties.

The lawyers who participated in the protest are being identified while additional action is being taken and CCTV and video evidence are being analysed.

Earlier, after being made aware of the Sambalpur District Bar Association’s protesting lawyers’ “act of damage and disorder,” the Bar Council of India suspended the licences of 29 agitating lawyers.

The licences have been suspended for a period of 18 months with immediate effect.
