BJD Received Donations of ₹692 Crore in Last 5 Years; Highest Among Political Parties

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the ruling party in Odisha, has emerged as the top recipient of political donations, according to a recent report by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR). Between the fiscal years 2016-17 and 2021-22, the BJD received a staggering Rs 692.609 crore in total donations, the highest among all political parties.

The ADR report reveals that the BJD received the majority of its donations, amounting to over 89.81%, through Electoral Bonds. These bonds accounted for Rs 622 crore of the total donations received by the party.

In addition to its success in Electoral Bond contributions, the BJD also secured the highest amount of direct corporate donations among regional parties. The party declared donations worth Rs 67.286 crore from the top 10 corporate donors during the aforementioned period.

Following the BJD, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and YSR Congress received significant donations, with amounts totalling Rs 476.893 crore, Rs 475.73 crore, and Rs 456.206 crore, respectively.
