BMC Garbage Truck Mows Down Woman; Son Critical

Bhubaneswar: A woman was killed while her son became critical after a truck carrying municipal waste ran over them near Rangamatia dumping yard under Mancheswar police limits in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

The incident took place this evening when a woman and her child were crossing the road.

Suddenly, a waste-carrying truck mowed down the duo, killing the woman on the spot. Meanwhile, the child is battling for life at a hospital.

Enraged Locals staged an agitation demanding punitive action against the erring driver and compensation for the bereaved family.

Local police have registered a case and seized the vehicle.

It is pertinent to be mentioned that exactly a month back on October 30, such an accident occurred on Old Cuttack – Khurda road when a man was crushed to death by a garbage truck of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Mayor Sulochana Das paid an instant compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim’s family in this case.
