BSKY Team Stood As Savior For Lonely And Helpless Bharat Bhusan

BSKY Team stood as messiah for the lonely and helpless Bharat Bhusan Naika of Gadapanadpur village in Nimapada block of Puri district. The team rescued him and put him under qualitative clinical care with the required support. Now, Bharat with a sense of relief visualizes healthy and good days ahead.

The episode showed that Bharat Bhusan aged around 60 was a poor and lonely person. Departing from normal life he remained unmarried and sheltered himself in an uncared lonely house. He had no family members.

Before around one month, he suffered from a wound in his right leg, which started growing because of no care and treatment. The wound got infected and spread to adjoining areas of the leg to the extent that Bharat Busan became bedridden. As he had nobody to feed him, he lay in a lonely half-broken house waiting for the mercy of others.

Having got a such a message from media scanning (on 20th February, 20123), BSKY Team with district administration started working on mission mode. Under directions of Puri Chief District Medical and Public Health Officer (CDM&PHO), the health team reached house of Bharat Bhusan on 21 February. The members of the team counselled him and served him with preliminary treatment, dressing of the wounds, medicine etc. in his house on the same day.

The next day i.e. on 22nd February, Bharat Bhusan was admitted in the community health centre Nimapara. Necessary examinations showed that he had a deeply infected ulcer in his right leg. On face of the severity of the infection, the patient was referred to SCB Medical college and hospital, Cuttack for tertiary care. He was also provided 108 ambulance services free of cost for transportation to SCB. But he denied to go to SCB and went back to his village under this or that pretext.

As a follow-up measure, the BSKY team again contacted Bharat in his village and counselled him that his treatment would be carried on in the district headquarter hospital ( DHH), Puri. By virtue of the compassionate counselling, Bharat agreed to move to Puri, and the BSKY team referred him to DHH Puri.

Now, the patient is being treated in the male surgery ward of DHH, Puri with Bed No-229. He is under supervision of Specialist surgeon of the hospital. Sahaya volunteers have been alerted for any assistance to Bhrat Bhusan. The volunteers in turn are in constant touch with him in the hospital. His health condition is well under control, and “we expect that he would be cured within some days” said the treating Specialist.

CDMP&HO, Puri Dr Sujata Mishra said, “Bharat Bhusan is showing good signs of improvement. Ulcer in his right leg has been contained. He has been given one unit of blood. Nutritious dietary provision has been made for him. All treatment, medicine and food etc are being provided free of cost with no cost involvement to him. If necessary, his skin grafting will be done after cure of the ulcer”.

The villagers of Gadapadanpur along with intelligentsia of the locality have expressed their satisfaction over such proactive steps of health administration, and have thanked Odisha Government for serving the needy at even hours of life.
