Hydrochloric Acid Leak Shuts Down NH-26 After Tanker Overturns in Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: Panic gripped Pottangi ghat in Odisha’s Koraput district on Thursday as a tanker truck carrying hydrochloric acid overturned, triggering a dangerous leak of the corrosive chemical. The incident occurred on NH-26 near Telerai, prompting immediate action from emergency services.

Fire personnel quickly reached the scene to contain the leak and prevent further spillage. Specialized equipment was deployed to control the acid flow and stabilize the overturned tanker. As a precautionary measure, NH-26 was temporarily blocked for vehicular movement to ensure the safety of motorists and nearby residents.

“Our top priority is to neutralize the acid leak and secure the tanker,” stated a Fire Services official at the location. “We are working diligently to minimize environmental damage and restore normalcy to the area.”

Meanwhile, Pottangi police initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. The tanker’s driver was reportedly unharmed but taken for medical evaluation. Authorities are yet to determine the extent of the leak or any potential environmental impact.
