Sub-Adult Female Elephant Killed in Train Collision in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: A sub-adult female elephant, approximately 30 years old, was killed in a collision with a goods train while crossing the railway tracks on Wednesday in the Jagannathpur village of Keonjhar, under the Bamebari section of Champua range. The incident occurred between the Nayagarh and Jurudi railway stations.

According to initial reports, a caution order was in place, but the collision could not be prevented, possibly due to reduced visibility caused by dense fog. Senior forest department officials are overseeing a thorough investigation into the incident.

The forest department has notified railway officials, and a veterinary team is en route to the scene. Additionally, the PCCF Wildlife’s office has established a Joint Task Force to monitor the situation closely.
