Liquor Vendor Murder in Odisha: Trio Including Minors Arrested, Grisly Details Emerge

Koraput: Three individuals, including two minors, were apprehended and remanded to custody in Odisha’s Koraput on Monday for their alleged involvement in the murder of a liquor vendor. The brutal event transpired in Dhubli, under Borigumma police limits, on December 30 but only came to light recently.

The victim, identified as Umesh Yadav, a native of Bihar, met his untimely demise when the accused, demanding 20 free sachets of country liquor, confronted him at the Borigumma country liquor outlet. Refusing their demand proved fatal, as the assailants attacked Yadav with wooden sticks, resulting in his immediate death. In a bid to mislead authorities, the accused tried to stage the incident as a suicide.

Following the heinous act, the perpetrators bound Yadav’s body with a rope and attached heavy stones before discarding it into a well located approximately 100 meters from the liquor outlet. Subsequently, the accused fled the scene after robbing Yadav of his money, mobile phone, and motorbike.

Borigumma Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shubhdendu Kumar Sabhar revealed on Tuesday that the stolen belongings, specifically the bike and mobile phone, played a pivotal role in leading the police to the identified culprit, Ajay Harijan.
