Noted Tabla Maestro Pandit Umesh Chandra Kar Passes Away

Bhubaneswar: Eminent Tabla maestro Pandit Umesh Chandra Kar passed away at his residence in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. He was 71.

Born on January 7, 1950, Kar was a notable figure in the Hindustani classical music fraternity. He was the former Principal of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya.

Kar had been conferred with many awards in his lifetime including the Sangeet Natak Academy Award and Ila Panda Sangeet Samman.

Expressing his grief in a condolence message, Naveen said Kar was a gifted artiste and his demise is a huge loss to the music industry in the State.

The CM also announced that Kar’s last rites will be conducted with full State honours. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
