Himachal Verdict Brings Back Priyanka into Political Limelight

Himachal Pradesh results were a breather for the Congress, which was gasping to save its face after its dismal performances in elections for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Gujarat assembly. The results in Himachal Pradesh have increased the importance of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the Congress party.

Congress observer for Himachal elections, Bhupesh Baghel has already declared that Priyanka Gandhi’s 10 guarantees have worked for the Congress in this hill state.

Following the success in Himachal, Congress think tanks supporting the Nehru-Gandhi family will again have to ponder over the question, Rahul or Priyanka, who is the best bet for the party?

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had preferred to stay away from the Himachal Pradesh Assembly polls. Taking a small break from his long Bharat Jodo Yatra, he attended a few campaign meetings in Gujarat. But Rahul preferred to skip Himachal Pradesh campaigning.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was the star campaigner of the Congress in Himachal. The party is on the verge of forming the government in the state with leads in 38 seats. If Congress forms government here, Priyanka’s status in the party will surely rise.

Priyanka continues to be a Congress General Secretary. Her strategies to counter BJP in UP had failed miserably. But she has successfully checkmated BJP the hill state, which changes governments after every five years.

Priyanka Gandhi took part in several rallies and roadshows in Himachal Pradesh. As per her recommendation, Rajeev Shukla was made the in-charge of Himachal Pradesh. She also monitored the micromanagement of the Congress campaign along with Shukla.
