Odia Web Series ‘Barang 1999’ Sparks Controversy; Here’s Why

Bhubaneswar: Before surfacing on the OTT platform, the upcoming Odia web series ‘Barang 1999’ has sparked controversy for its story.

The web series will reportedly showcase the high-profile sensational case of Anjana Mishra which took place in 1999.

Meanwhile, Mishra said that she had no idea about her case being used as a web series story and also threatens the makers of the web series that she would take legal action against them.

“I came to know about it from a newspaper today and was shocked as I was not informed,” she said.

“They neither held any discussion with me nor sought my permission. I warn them not to make the web series. If they do so, I will take legal action,” she added.

The web series having nine episodes is slated to be released in March 2023. While shooting for one episode has been completed, other episodes will be filmed soon.

The makers of the web series said the story and content are based on information received from the court and police station. It showcases the political system, justice delivery and police action, they added.
