Chaos in Odisha Assembly Over CM’s Agniveer Reservation Announcement

Bhubaneswar: Chaos erupted in the Odisha Assembly on Monday following a breach of privilege notice filed by Congress against Chief Minister Mohan Majhi.

The notice was related to Majhi’s recent announcement on reserving 10% seats and providing a 5-year age relaxation for Agniveers in state-level uniformed services.

The controversy began after the Speaker approved the notice on Monday, leading to significant disruption as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling attempted to present the announcement.

Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati criticised the Chief Minister for making the reservation announcement outside the Assembly while it was in session. Bahinipati argued that such declarations should be made within the House to ensure proper legislative process and accountability.

In response, BJP MLA Irasis Acharya filed a counter notice against Bahinipati, accusing him of disclosing Assembly proceedings to the media without the Speaker’s approval.

The situation intensified as both BJD and Congress members clashed over the issue, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the session until 4 pm.
