CBI Court Awards 4 Years Jail to Odisha Gramya Bank’s Branch Manager in Bribery Case

Bhubaneswar: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court has handed a four-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to the branch manager of Odisha Gramya Bank in the Dhenkanal district. The conviction stems from a bribery case reported in August 2016, when a man filed a complaint against the bank’s branch manager, Duryodhan Sethy.

The complainant alleged that Sethy demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 during the processing of his wife’s loan application for a poultry farm, which amounted to Rs 4.25 lakh. Taking swift action, the CBI set up a trap and apprehended Sethy while he was accepting the bribe on August 9, 2016.

Following the arrest, the CBI filed a chargesheet on October 27, 2016. After due legal proceedings, the Special CBI Court in Bhubaneswar delivered a verdict on Tuesday, convicting the bank manager and sentencing him to four years of rigorous imprisonment.
