Odisha Launches e-Chasa App, Portal for Statewide Digital Crop Survey

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday launched the e-Chasa app and portal to introduce a digital survey policy in the state’s agriculture sector. Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo, who also heads the Agriculture Department, launched the app and portal at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar.

The e-Chasa initiative will enable accurate digital surveys of crops across Odisha, even in remote and hilly areas, enhancing data accuracy for policy formulation in agriculture. Singh Deo highlighted that Odisha is the first state to adopt such a digital survey policy in agriculture, benefiting approximately 48 lakh farmers.

The app provides a comprehensive platform where farmers can access crop-related data and information at any time, regardless of weather conditions. The digital survey programme was piloted last year in Bhadrak, Deogarh, Nuapada and Nayagarh districts, covering around 30 lakh plots. Following its success, the initiative has been expanded statewide.

The programme will survey about 48 lakh hectares of agricultural land, with the assistance of 28,000 surveyors, 8,000 supervisors and 1,400 inspectors, according to Agriculture Department Principal Secretary Arabinda Kumar Padhee. Additionally, farmers can report issues and seek guidance through the Farmers Helpline (155333).
