Odisha To Get Its First Narco Analysis Test Center At Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to law enforcement in Odisha, the state is set to establish its first narco-analysis test centre at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The centre will serve as a hub for narco tests in Odisha and neighbouring states.

The necessary equipment has already been delivered to the State Forensic Science Laboratory and will soon be transferred to the Operation Theatre (OT) of Capital Hospital, where the tests will take place. Psychiatrists and anaesthetists from the hospital are currently undergoing training to administer the tests.

The narco-analysis tests are expected to commence as early as next month, according to Director Laxmidhar Sahu of Capital Hospital.

Sahu highlighted the need for a local narco test centre, recalling a case where they had to send the accused to Pune for testing during the investigation of the Naba Das murder case. Establishing this facility in Odisha is a significant step forward for the state government.

Forensic expert Muralidhar Nayak expressed his optimism about the new centre, emphasizing that it will mark a significant milestone in crime investigation. Until now, the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar could only conduct polygraph or lie detection tests. This new centre will not only benefit Odisha but also neighbouring states seeking these services in Bhubaneswar.
