Odisha Vigilance Files 5000-Page Chargesheet Against Ex-IFS Officer Abhay Pathak & Son in DA Case

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday filed a 5000-page chargesheet against former IFS Officer Abhay Pathak and his son Akash Pathak in a case involving disproportionate assets. The chargesheet was submitted by the anti-graft department to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. It presents comprehensive evidence against the accused duo, indicating their involvement in the possession of assets worth over Rs 14 crore, disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The case was initiated on November 27, 2020, under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, due to suspicions of IFS Pathak amassing assets beyond his legitimate earnings during his tenure as a public servant. The subsequent investigation included searches conducted at 16 locations across multiple states, resulting in the confiscation of pertinent materials, documents, and financial records.

Upon completion of the investigation, it was unveiled that Pathak had amassed disproportionate assets totalling Rs. 14,25,46,901/- (Rupees Fourteen Crores Twenty-five Lakhs Forty-six Thousand Nine Hundred One). The scrutiny also unveiled substantial cash deposits exceeding Rs 10 crore and account transfers of approximately Rs 5 crore within various bank accounts associated with Pathak and his son. However, both accused individuals failed to provide satisfactory explanations for these financial transactions.
