Mahanga Schoolgirl Death: Odisha Women’s Body Registers Case, Seeks Report in 15 Days

Cuttack: The State Commission for Women (SCWT) of Odisha has taken suo moto cognizance of the alleged suicide of a Class-X schoolgirl in the Mahanga area of Cuttack district.

The girl was found dead on June 16, and her body was disposed of without a post-mortem examination. This has raised suspicions that the death may have been a case of foul play.

The SCWT has sought a detailed report from the Cuttack Rural SP within 15 days.

The case has also gained attention due to a leaked audio recording of a conversation between BJD leader Sarat Nayak and the mother of the deceased girl. In the recording, Nayak is heard saying that the girl’s body was deliberately disposed of without a post-mortem in order to destroy evidence.

The police have questioned the PET and his mother in connection with the case.
