South Korean Photojournalist Covering Hockey World Cup Falls Into Drain; Condition Stable

Bhubaneswar: A photojournalist from South Korea who had travelled to cover the FIH Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 Rourkela-Bhubaneswar fell into an open drain on Wednesday night at around 8 PM while drinking tea at a roadside stall in the Dumduma area of the State Capital.

According to an eyewitness, the journalist suffered severe injuries as a result of the fall, including a fracture in his right leg. The visitor was rescued by some locals and auto rickshaw drivers and sent for medical care to a nearby hospital. According to reports, his health is currently stable.

“A lot of money is currently being spent on beautifying the capital city in preparation for the major international sporting event. However, the lack of fundamental public services became apparent when a foreign journalist was hurt here after slipping into an open drain, Dumduma residents alleged.

Deaths from slipping into open sewers are not unusual in Bhubaneswar, the residents added.
