Woman Dupes Villagers In Bargarh, Flees With Family

Bargarh: Kanchan Bhoi, a businesswoman of Jamseth village under Paikmal block in Bargarh district, has fled the village along with his family members allegedly after duping hundreds of villagers of lakhs of rupees.

As per village sources, Bhoi along with her son and husband was working as a commission agent at the village and also opened a Grahak Seva Kendra under the flagship of Indus Bank for

“They used to ask people to deposit their money and also collected money from us by visiting door to door. The villagers also deposited cash with Bhoi as she promised to give good interest on their money,” a villager said.

“Slowly, she won the trust of the villagers and collected lakhs of rupees from us as deposits. All of a sudden, she fled with her family members recently, leaving the depositors in a state of shock,” the villager added.

The villagers maintained that the total money of which the residents of Jamseth and nearby villages have been duped by Kanchan Bhoi amounted to nearly Rs 60 lakh.

After looking for Bhoi and her family members at their level, the villagers complained to the police, based on which an FIR was registered at the Paikmal police station.

A list of the residents who have allegedly been defrauded by Bhoi of lakhs of rupees has also been provided to the police.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused persons and further investigations are underway.
