Ben Stokes to Undergo Knee Surgery Post-World Cup, Targets India Test Series Return

Bengaluru: Marquee England all-rounder Ben Stokes has announced that he will undergo knee surgery following the World Cup and aims to recover in time for the Test series in India scheduled for January. Due to a persistent knee issue, the 32-year-old was selected as a specialist batter for the World Cup and hasn’t bowled for England in over a year. Despite his limited role as a batsman, he has struggled to make an impact in the tournament, contributing just 48 runs in three matches.

Stokes expressed confidence in his recovery for the Test series, stating, “I’ll be fine for the Test Series in India. I am having surgery after the World Cup.” He also noted that this World Cup was a relief for him as he didn’t have to worry about his bowling due to his knee condition.

Furthermore, Stokes addressed concerns about his health after being seen using an inhaler in Bengaluru, India. He clarified that he has exercise-induced asthma, which can be exacerbated by changes in air quality when travelling. He attributed the inhaler use to the different air conditions in Bengaluru and physical activity, stating, “Bangalore when we actually turned up just felt a lot fresher, but doing the running that I was doing does bring it on a lot easier than normal.”

In a separate development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has prohibited fireworks at games in Mumbai and Delhi due to severe pollution levels in these urban areas.
