Gautam Gambhir Toyed With MS Dhoni’s Ego: Irfan Pathan

Bhubaneswar: As all of us know, Gautam Gambhir has had a salty relationship with several Indian cricketers like Virat Virat Kohli. The list also includes MS Dhoni.

The 2011 World Cup final and their IPL battles, particularly when they were set against each other as rival captains, are just two instances over the years where Gambhir and India’s most successful skipper have traded jabs. The IPL 2012 final is still a perfect example. The two also clashed when CSK received a two-year suspension and Dhoni led the Rising Pune Supergiant for a while. The battle between Gambhir and Dhoni was fierce, with each player attempting to outwit the other strategically.

While commentating during the Lucknow-Chennai game, Irfan Pathan, the former Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) player, recalled the 2016 IPL incident between the KKR and RPS, which was then a franchise. When RPS were stranded at 74-4 and MS Dhoni entered the arena to face Piyush Chawla, the then KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir brought in around 5 close-in fielders.

“When Gautam Gambhir was the captain of KKR, he toyed with MS Dhoni’s ego. He was the only one who was able to rattle him for years,” Pathan remarked while doing commentary in Hindi. Pathan went on to reveal that “MS was rattled to his core by the field setting” in reference to Gambhir’s tactic.
