PCB Appoints Cricket Legends as Mentors for Champions Trophy Preparations

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has enlisted five legendary cricketers to mentor both domestic and international players ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The PCB named Waqar Younis, Shoaib Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Saqlain Mushtaq as mentors for the upcoming Champions One-Day Cup.

This domestic tournament, set to begin on September 12 at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium, will feature five teams comprising top domestic talent and centrally contracted national players.

The move comes after Pakistan’s recent Test defeat to Bangladesh, which has heightened the PCB’s focus on rigorous preparations for the Champions Trophy, especially since Pakistan will host the event.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the importance of the mentors, stating they will be crucial in the strategic planning, leadership and personal development of emerging cricketers. He added that their combined experience, spanning over 32,000 international runs and 1,500 wickets, will bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket.
