Kasun Rajitha Runs Riot as Sri Lanka Crush Bangladesh by 328 Runs in 1st Test

Sylhet: Kasun Rajitha produced a career-best bowling performance to lead Sri Lanka to a dominant 328-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Rajitha, who had already impressed with 3-56 in the first innings, ripped through the Bangladesh batting order in the second innings, claiming a magnificent 5-56 to finish with match figures of 8-112.

Mominul Haque offered some resistance for the hosts with a fighting knock of 87 (148 balls), but he lacked support from the other end as Sri Lanka’s bowlers imposed their dominance.

Sri Lanka set an imposing target of 511 runs for Bangladesh, powered by centuries from Kamindu Mendis and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva in both innings. Despite some resistance from Mominul and Mehidy Hasan, Rajitha’s bowling proved pivotal in breaking crucial partnerships. Rajitha’s five-wicket haul included key dismissals, ultimately sealing Bangladesh’s fate.

Earlier in the match, Sri Lanka posted 280 in the first innings, led by centuries from de Silva and Mendis. They followed it up by dismissing Bangladesh for 188, before de Silva and Mendis struck centuries again in the second innings, helping Sri Lanka reach a total of 418 and paving the way for victory.

This victory gives Sri Lanka a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series.
