IMD Issues Nor’wester Warning For Several Odisha Districts Today

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecasted that several Odisha districts are likely to experience Nor’wester today.

Reportedly, nor’wester rain lashed several places in Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Athagarh, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Dhenkanal, on Thursday. At the same time, the weather office said that the heat wave prevailing across the state will continue for another four days.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) of Odisha Nikunja Bihari Dhal sought reports from collectors after nor’wester caused widespread damages in several parts of the state.

People got the much sought-after relief from the sweltering heat due to the rain in several places across the state. However, the rain was accompanied by strong lighting and gusty wind, the speeds of which reached up to 40-50 km per hour, and caused several damages.

Trees were seen uprooted in various areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack while a high-tension electric wire snapped in the Pipili area leading to disruption of power supply and vehicular movement.
