Heavy Rainfall Likely In Odisha As Low Pressure Forms Over Bay Of Bengal

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

“Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts, a Low-Pressure Area has formed over the same region with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height,” the agency said.

Under the influence of the system, several districts of Odisha are likely to experience heavy rainfall today.

“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Bolangir, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Sonepur and Boudh,” the Regional Meteorological Centre here forecasted and issued Orange Warning for these districts.

“Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nawarangapur and Nuapada,” the Meteorological Centre predicted and issued Yellow Warning for these districts.
