IPL 2024, CSK vs GT: Gujarat Opt To Field, CSK Make One Change; Check Playing XIs

Chennai: The IPL’s spotlight shines on Chepauk Stadium on Tuesday as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill, the tournament’s youngest captains, lead their respective teams, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT), in a highly anticipated clash.

This match marks the first meeting between Gill and Gaikwad as captains, despite both teams reaching the IPL 2023 final under the leadership of MS Dhoni (CSK) and Hardik Pandya (GT). The off-season saw a leadership shakeup, with Gill taking over GT’s reins after Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians and Gaikwad’s surprise appointment as CSK captain.

Both youngsters have already made their mark on their teams. Gill’s leadership was lauded by debutant Spencer Johnson after GT’s thrilling win over Mumbai Indians, while Gaikwad’s proactive fielding changes in CSK’s opening match yielded immediate success.

Adding another layer of intrigue is the presence of five Tamil Nadu players in the GT squad – Sai Sudharsan, Sai Kishore, Vijay Shankar, Shahrukh Khan, and Sandeep Warrier. Notably, Sudharsan, Kishore, and Vijay have prior experience with CSK or its development program. In contrast, CSK’s current squad lacks any local representation.

Sri Lankan death over specialist Matheesha Pathirana has arrived at CSK’s camp and is set to play his first game of the season.
