Odisha Heatwave Simmers On: Rain Relief Expected in 2 Days

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Odisha has issued a cautionary bulletin, warning residents of severe heatwave conditions persisting in 16 districts for the next two days. Additionally, the weather office forecasts the likelihood of thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall across most districts of Odisha starting today.

Day 1 (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 04.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places in Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, and Kandhamal and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

ORANGE WARNING (BE PREPARED): Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Boudh, Bolangir, and Deogarh.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Sonepur, and Kalahandi.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 04.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 05.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest of the districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Boudh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda.

Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 05.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 06.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in Angul, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, and Bolangir. Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, and Koraput.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 06.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 07.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of south coastal Odisha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and at one or two places in north coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara,

Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 07.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 08.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places in north coastal Odisha,

Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Khurda, Puri, and Ganjam, and at a few places in the rest districts of Odisha.

YELLOW WARNING (BE UPDATED): Thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh,

Ganjam, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bolangir, Kalahandi and thunderstorms with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, and Gajapati.

Day 6 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 08.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 09.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places in coastal Odisha and one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Day 7 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 09.05.2024to 0830 hrs IST of 10.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur in a few places over the districts of Odisha.
