Tihar Jail’s Ex-DG Suspended by Union Home Ministry

New Delhi: Union Home Ministry on Thursday suspended senior IPS officer and former director general of Tihar Prisons Sandeep Goel. This action was taken against him for his alleged dereliction of duties.

The suspended official is a 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He headed the Tihar Jail management till he was removed from the post in November. He was attached to the Delhi Police headquarters.

Union Home Ministry suspended him for “dereliction” of duties while he was posted as the DG of Tihar.

The suspension order has not mentioned the allegation against him in detail.

Goel’s activities in Tihar Jail came under suspicion when jailed conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar made sensational claims that he had paid Rs 12.5 crore to the officer as “protection money” for his safety in Mandoli Jail. Sukesh is imprisoned in Mandoli jail in connection with a Rs 200-crore money-laundering case.
