Suryakumar Adjudged ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer Of The Year

Dubai: The winner of the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year had one of the best years any player has had in the format’s history. India batter Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the year (2022).

Suryakumar had a stellar year with the bat as he amassed 1164 runs in 31 matches at an average of 46.56 with a strike rate of 187.43. He became the second batter to score more than 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year.

“Thank you so much ICC for naming me as the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the year. It’s a great feeling and 2022 has been amazing for me. From a personal point of view, I really enjoyed a few knocks I played in that year. If I had to pick one knock which I feel was special and close to me was the first hundred for my country because the first hundred is always special. Hopefully many more knocks to come,” expressed Suryakumar in a video posted on BCCI.tv.

The 32-year-old was in great form in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia as he smashed three fifties in six innings at a strike rate of 189.68. He scored his maiden T20I century, (117 off 55 balls) against England in Nottingham in July last year.

The right-hand batter was also top-ranked in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings with 890 rating points.

On the other hand, India pacer Mohammed Siraj has claimed the No.1 spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings for bowlers with 729 rating points. He went past New Zealand pacer Trent Boult to achieve the feat. The 28-year-old picked up 24 wickets in 15 ODI matches in 2022.
