Ex Odisha MP Jayanti Patnaik Passes Away At 90

Bhubaneswar: Former Chief Minister of Odisha, Late Janaki Ballabh Patnaik’s wife and former Parliamentarian Jayanti Patnaik passed away here on Wednesday night at the age of 90.

Patnaik was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Born in 1932, she was elected to the Lok Sabha, twice – in 1985 from Cuttack and in 1998 from Berhampur.

Patnaik was the first Chairperson of the National Women’s Commission. She was also the president of the All India Mahila Congress. Apart from being an active politician, and a women’s leader, Patnaik was also a noted litterateur.

Eminent leaders and people from all corners have condoled her death.
