Cuttack: The Orissa High Court directed the Puri civic body to provide compensation worth Rs 10 lakh to the family of a child, who was killed in a stray dog attack in 2016.
A stray dog bite caused the death of a four-year-old child at Jagannath Colony in Puri. A petition was filed before the Orissa High Court regarding the incident.
In its affidavit, the Puri Municipality informed about the steps initiated by the civic body to sterilize the stray dogs in its area. The municipality also added that there was no provision of compensation in case of death due to dog bite.
The High Court was not pleased with Puri Municipality’s reply and ordered the payment of Rs 10 lakh compensation to the deceased’s family.
