12 Killed, 13 Injured in Coal Mine Accident in China

Twelve miners died and 13 others were seriously injured in a mining accident in northeast China, reported China’s state media on Thursday.

The accident occurred at 3:50 pm local time (0750 GMT) on Wednesday at a coal mine on the outskirts of Jixi city in Heilongjiang province.

The accident involved a vehicle in the mine’s inclined shaft. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

In 2022, at least 245 persons died in 168 mining accidents in China.

In November 2023, an accident at another coal mine in Heilongjiang killed 11 people. In September, at least 16 people were killed in a coal mine fire in southwest China’s Guizhou province.
